Description

All right, full disclosure: I love these keys. I'll always give a lock a once over with these before trying anything else. They’re a deceptively simple set of keys that trick the pins into thinking the correct key has been inserted. Having said that, when the lock opens, these are the correct keys! Made by lock pickers, for lock pickers, for you to add to your pick set today.

How Do You Pick a Rake Lock?

Raking is a great lock picking technique that attempts to move multiple pins at once. This method is great for a quick, efficient opening for low-security locks. You can find rakes in a number of set designs, such as the snake, the worm, the city or L rake, and the Bogota rake. These rakes are bent in ways to simulate the grooves in a key, and the way they’re used is by inserting the pick and then quite literally raking it along the keyway to fool those pins.

Easy to learn and offering quick results for beginners, a good rake picking set offers instant gratification by opening low-security locks very quickly. Some bumping brand's car entry tools also work similarly to rake picks, and that means as far as car entry tools, picking with a set of lock picks that work the same way as rakes increase the number of locks you can handle. If you’re running a non-destructive entry tool shop or simply like collecting lock picks, you can’t get much better than a nice rake set!

Still, these lock picks aren’t perfect. Experts in our field know that a rake pick set certainly has a place but they’re not infallible. Where they’re not all that great is in more high-security locks that need to be manipulated carefully a single pin at a time.

As far as lock bumping brands go, the car picks that rely on raking are easily defeated by modern vehicles with built-in electronic chips. As far as lock picks brands, lock bumping and single-pin lock picks still have their place. Still, if you don’t have a rake set in your toolbox, what are you thinking?
